What is changing in Indian classrooms
India’s education policy push is moving AI into school learning more formally. A government-backed report notes that AI and Computational Thinking are being introduced as curriculum components from Classes 3–8 in 2026–27, with expansion planned for higher classes. That shows AI is no longer a side topic; it is becoming part of mainstream learning.
The same report also highlights a practical challenge: only 64.7% of schools have computers and 63.5% have internet connectivity, so the AI opportunity is real, but uneven. In other words, India’s AI education story is both promising and unevenly distributed.

AI can help with revision, practice questions, language support and faster assessment. It can also support teachers by reducing repetitive tasks and allowing them to focus more on mentoring and explaining.
In one classroom study, 78% of students reported better conceptual understanding and 64% reported higher engagement when AI tools were used. That suggests AI can improve both performance and interest when used well.
