But while schools focus on marks, empathy rarely gets the spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a 2021 Azim Premji Foundation report, Indian children displayed <strong>lower levels of peer empathy and cooperation during<\/strong> post-COVID re-entry. The gap is real \u2014 but fixable. And it starts at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Let Them See You Care<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Children mirror empathy. They learn more from how you treat the maid, the watchman, or the delivery boy than from lectures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Name Emotions \u2014 Theirs and Yours<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of saying \u201cstop crying,\u201d try \u201cI see you&#8217;re upset. Want to talk about it?\u201d Use the language of emotions often. It builds a child\u2019s capacity to recognize and respond to others&#8217; feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Read Books That Stretch Perspective<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Stories build empathy. Read books like <em>Gajapati Kulapati<\/em>, <em>The Blue Umbrella<\/em>, or <em>Grandma\u2019s Bag of Stories<\/em>. Discuss what characters feel and why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Volunteer as a Family<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Involve them in causes \u2014 animal shelters, community drives, or simply feeding stray dogs.
