G.B. MEMORIAL INSTITUTION

 

G.B Memorial Institution (GBMI) was established by Late Samar Mitra, an eminent social worker with the aim of expanding quality education facilities among all sections of the people living in the vast areas of South Kolkata, Behala and Sarsuna in particular. The School started as a Nursery and Kindergarten school in 1983. In the course of time, the School earned a high reputation as an institution providing quality academic and extramural education under Mrs. Bhagabati Mitra, the founding Headmistress. In course of the time, to meet the requirements of the locality for an English medium school; the School expanded its horizons and emerged as a Higher Secondary School in 2006 recognized under WBCHSE with more than 2100 students The school aims at the all-round integral development of the students so that they grow up to be complete, rational, responsible global citizens and each grows as a unique individual, committed to the development of the Society. The school does not restrict its curriculum only to the Board prescribed books but also includes various other carefully selected books to help develop a holistic knowledge of the subject. This, on one side, helps maintain the academic rigor, and on the other, aids the holistic development of the young minds into ideal citizens of tomorrow.

 

Other than formal education, a sound arrangement of weekly IQ Development classes from Class I to Class VI and Class VII to Class XII preparatory classes for competitive examinations like WBJEE, NEET, IIT, CA CPT, etc and career-oriented counseling is another unique proposition offered by GBMI.

 

The GBMI family, comprising of Managing Committee members, Headmistress, Teaching and non-Teaching staff, all students and their parents make this institution a temple of learning and development.

 

AWARDS & ACCOLADES

The school received the “Best School Award” in Kolkata from Sunmarg in 2017. Certificate of Appreciation received from New South Wales for being among the Top Ten Schools in the International Assessment of Indian Schools examination in Three consecutive years. 28 Gold Medal winners out of 36 participants in Science Olympiad Foundation 2017. 37 Gold Medal winners out of 52 participants in NASA Astronomy Olympiad. 5 International Ranks,9 Zonal Ranks in Science Olympiad Foundation 2018-19. Ankur Das of class – x recipient of - Khel Samman 2018 by WB Ministry of Youth Welfare Sports, Government of West Bengal. - TTIS Award for excellence in sports 2018. The School Cricket Team has won the “All India Under 14 Champions Trophy” School cricket tournament and the under 14 and under 16 “Tata All India School Cricket Tournament”.
