ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (IBDP)

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate Organization is a not-for-profit foundation, which offers four high quality and challenging educational programmes for a worldwide community of schools. For over 50 years, IB programmes have gained a reputation for their high academic standards, preparing students for life in a globalised 21st century and for helping to develop the citizens who will create a better, more peaceful world. Currently there are over 1 million IB Diploma students at over 4500 schools in 154 countries across the world.

INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM

The IB Diploma Programme students are assessed in a range of ways so that the aims and objectives of the subjects are fulfilled. There are formative and summative assessments each term. A summative examination is held at the end of each term for the first three terms (the two years are divided into 4 terms) followed by MOCK exams in the fourth term.

The weightage of the term assessments and end of term assessment are

Term 1 : 20 % for the continuous assessment and 80% for the end of term assessment

Term 2 : 20 % for the continuous assessment and 80% for the end of term assessment

For the IBDP, every subject has an internal assessment component which works out to approximately 20-25% of the total grade for the subject. These assessments are completed in school, marked by the teachers and then moderated by external examiners as appointed by the IBO.

Completion of these assessments require a first draft which receives feedback from the teacher, which is then incorporated into the final version. This final draft is marked by the teacher in some cases and a copy of the assessment is uploaded on the IB servers for external marking if required, and moderation.

The IB Diploma Programme Grading Scheme:

For Classes XI & XII, the students on the International Baccalaureate Programme are graded according to the IB grading criteria. Students are graded on a scale of 1 - 7, with 7 being the highest score. The International Baccalaureate Programme uses criteria referenced assessment rather than norm referenced assessment. Grading for the core is done using letter grades from A - E, where A is the highest and E is a fail grade.

The school progress report contains the student’s grades and subject teachers comment on attainments in context of approaches to Learning and further improvement.
