About Us

The School was founded in 1927 and so it has had its shares of joys and sorrows and as all institutions do come out of these situations stronger and more fortified to deal with the situations that may arise from time to time.

Times have changed and so we must move with the times keeping in mind the requirements and needs of the hour.

Education in this Hi-Tech age seems to be losing its value and seems to be concentrating on the mundane things that life has to offer. Education as it must be stressed is concerned with learning and we must bear in mind that its scope is universal. It is meant to broaden the outlook of the students so as to embrace the whole universe. It should be used as a means to strengthen the bouts of unity in the world based on universal and eternal values like truth, love, compassion, and most importantly SERVICE, which is a service of HUMANITY. The very aim of education should be used for the development of character, stimulation of interest, and maintaining one's mental vision. These are the essential values that education should inculcate. We are reminded here of the biblical saying that 'Man lives not only by bread alone. The realization of inner divinity in every manifestation and the essential utility that exists in nature despite all its diversity should be the basis of education which in turn will bring out unity in thought and truthfulness in action.

INTRODUCTION

The Bishop Westcott School was founded by the Right Rev. Dr. Foss Westcott, Bishop of Chotanagpur in 1921. Bishop Westcott Boys' School was founded in 1927. Initially, the school was meant for Anglo-Indian children, most of whose parents were either missionaries or in the foreign service. Later on, other children of other communities were taken in and the school achieved a secular status. The school premises is situated on the lands of the villages of jorar and Namkum, which are on the outskirts of Ranchi.

Namkum is a sleepy hollow approx. 6km east of Ranchi, on the banks of the famous Subarnarekha river. It has its own Railway station and is easily accessible by Road. As there are no major industries nearby, it is free from pollution and is also a very quiet place, the ideal setting for a school.

VISION & MISION

As we are in the third Millennium, it will be our endeavor to inculcate into our students the very essence of life and more importantly the ethics that make a world of difference to the quality of life that we see around us. Education must be more than just academics and must bring out the best and varied talents of its pupils so that they may take their rightful place among the men and women of the nations of the world.
