DAV MOVEMENT
The DAV Movement launched in 1886, is in keeping with the Vedic tradition of the payment of the RISHI RIN or GURU RIN, which is a humble offering of Maharshi Dayanand’s followers such as Mahatma Hansraj, Lala Lajpat Rai, Gurudatta Vidyarthi, Swami Shraddhananda, Lala Lal Chand, Bhai Paramanda, Lala Dwarka Dass and P.T. Lekharam, to name but a few. To him, Swami Dayananda paid the RIN by establishing the Arya Samaj and his followers, inspired by him, felt themselves duty-bound to open schools and colleges in the sacred memory of their peerless master.

1st June 1886 was a red-letter day in the history of Indian Education, as the pioneer educational institution DAYANANDA ANGLO-VEDIC HIGH SCHOOL, was set up at Lahore by Mahatma Hansraj that very day and it was destined to become the precursor of the widespread DAV Movement in the field of education, which brought into existence a chain of quality DAV schools and colleges through the length and breadth of the country, especially in the northern province. The impact of the Movement has been so tremendous that Dr P. Choudhury, a historian, eulogises it in the following sonorous words attempting to attain the status of poetry:

Inspired by the movie of the study of English and Western sciences under the protective wings of the Indian cultural traditions, the DAV movement (SIC) has been a significant experiment in the field of modern Indian education. It [has] created a healthy tradition of independent thought and action and [has] continued to inspire private efforts wedded to nationalist ideology in the field of education.

The DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL under the DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi (which is the largest non-governmental educational organisation in India) are experimental and innovative schools, which meet the needs of an individual as well as of his/her society. In the stark blindness of the so-called modernization, most of the public schools in India have bidden farewell to character building, the unending significance of which was recognized even by the greatest scientist of the twentieth century, Albert Einstein:

The most important human endeavour is the striving for morality in our actions. Our inner balance and even our very existence depend on it. Only morality in our actions can give beauty and dignity of life.

School in Present Form

The School, in its present form, is a joint venture of the DAV College Managing Committee and the Coal India Limited (CIL). The erstwhile Shishu Vihar was handed over to the committee in 1990, and getting the matchless managing capability of the committee and the timely cooperation of the CIL, the Vihar has bloomed into a DAV school par excellence, making a miraculous leap in such a short period. To sum up, the mission of DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL, GANDHINAGAR (CCL) is “to open doors and open minds” and prepare the ground for the future of the nation.  At present, it is a +2 school, affiliated with the CBSE. The streams of Science and Commerce are available here for Classes XI and XII.

LOCAL

The School is situated in the lap of the neat and clean environs of the Gandhi Nagar Colony, which is some 5 KM away from the town, thus far away from the hustle and bustle and fatal noises of the Capital. At the same time, it is not an isolated place, as it is in the heart of the peaceful colony. Such a locale is a rarity!

WINGS

The School comprises of two wings–Junior and Senior. The Junior Wing, which overlooks the Gandhi Nagar Krirangan, accommodates the classes from L.KG. to III. The Senior Wing, which is a three-story edifice, at the leftmost corner of the CCL Hospital, accommodates the rest of the classes.

PRINCIPAL MESSAGE

I feel extremely delighted to see our students have once again shown their creative spirit and contributed whole heartedly. I am sure with the introduction of NEP 2020 students will get more opportunities to bring out their creativity and innate talent.

We understand that our students have unbound potentiality; we have just to surface it and give it a proper direction. I would here like to quote a few lines from Mahatma Gandhi. “Men often become what they believe themselves to be If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn’t have it in the beginning” We have firm belief in the truth of the above statement and therefore we have striven to make the children realize their worth. Perhaps our efforts have not gone in vain because our students have proved their mettle in all fields, be it academics, sports or cultural activities. Many students have achieved success at State and National level. Today when there is razor-edged competition at every stage, it is very important that each student learns the lessons of life-skills very well, so that he is able to move ahead with full confidence and even if he falls he is up on his feet once again with a new hope. Thus we shall feel very happy and satisfied if we have been successful in teaching the students to be good human beings and responsible citizens and not just good academic record holders. Finally I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the students, teaching and non-teaching staff for their unceasing support.
