About Us

Founded in 1972 by eminent educationist and social worker Mrs Madhusree Dasgupta, Dolna started off as a 'creche', at a time when the concept was wholly new to the people of Kolkata, to answer the needs of the working mother and the 'child-in-need'. Day-long care necessitated the imparting of education and hence the simultaneous growth of the School.

Soon, the demand for a reliable creche for infants and day-care for older children started growing. Dolna expanded its wings and started sheltering children from three- month olds to teenagers and consequently, the School developed into an ISCE/ISC School affiliated to the CISCE, New Delhi.

Though a formal school, the atmosphere at Dolna is informal and free, where children enjoy a close bond with their mentors and are encouraged to express their thoughts. Every effort is made to reduce stress and propagate enjoyment in the learning process. The building has been planned in such a way that the children do not feel cloistered, but can find enough of free spaces and open verandahs, to dispel boredom.

A complete education is offered to all. Apart from academics and classroom-activities, there are special lessons in everyday science through hands-on experiments for middle-school children; the daily Assembly is an hour for the learning of music for children of all classes; karate, yoga and dance classes are built into the regular schedule; special attention is paid towards development of communication skills from pre-primary to middle-school; senior students are also given personality development and finishing lessons.

However, what is of prime importance at Dolna is the nurturing of a sound sense of values in the child, to help them blossom into respectful, upright and compassionate human beings.
