Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata, founded in 1952 by Rukmani Devi Birla is an all-girls’ institution. MHS is free of any bias and embraces all students on equal terms irrespective of religion, community or socio-economic background. It offers a liberal education which is intended to motivate students to discover and build on their own individual strengths and contribute to society in turn.
The school is recognized by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations or CISCE (www.cisce.org).
The school has been authorized to offer IGCSE under CAIE from session 2020-2021 under registration in214.
The school offers K-12 education and the medium of instruction is English.

About the INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (IGCSE)
IGCSEis the acronym for INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION which is an educational qualification offered by CAIE (University of Cambridge International Examinations). It is a two-year course for 14-16-year olds (classes 9 & 10 students).
CAIE (University of Cambridge Assessment International Examinations) is a part of Cambridge Assessment Group which is the brand name of UCLES (University of Cambridge International Examinations). CAIE offers more than 70 subjects out of which MHS is planning to start with 17. At MHS, to maintain parity with the National curriculum ICSE, the school has opted for the ICE Award which requires a MINIMUM of 7 subjects in five categories and mandates its students to opt for 9 subjects (of which two are for English language and literature). Thus, they will have more options when they reach Class 11, irrespective of whether they enter the National or the International Curriculum. This is a practice that is followed by many schools in India and abroad.

4. What is ICE?
ICE is an acronym for International Certificate of Education which is a group award of IGCSE. To receive this Certificate a student has to do at least 7 subjects by selecting two languages in Group 1, one each from Group 2 to Group 5. The seventh subject can be chosen from any one of Group 2 to Group 5.
5. How are the students assessed in Final IGCSE Examination?
Each learner’s performance is benchmarked using 8 internationally recognized grades – A*, A, B, C, D,
E, F & G.
6. Do the students get to know the exact marks they have scored in each subject in the Final IGCSE Examination?
No. But they will get a STATEMENT OF RESULTS which will show the grades that they have scored in
each subject along with PERCENTAGE UNIFORM MARKS.
7. What is PERCENTAGE UNIFORM MARKS?

8. When will the IGCSE results be available?
Students taking their IGCSE Examination in March 2022 can view their results during the third week of May 2022. They can get their IGCSE Certificates by first week of July, 2022.
9. What is the eligibility criteria?
Students who are promoted to class 9 from any board of examination: WB/ICSE/CBSE/IBMYP/IG
